Tres Leches cake is a classic delicacy from Latin America, including Mexico and Central America. The name “Tres Leches” means “three milks” in Spanish, and refers to the three types of milk used in the cake. It is a light and moist sponge cake that has been soaked in a mixture of evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream, giving it its distinct texture and flavor.

Here’s a simple Tres Leches cake recipe:

  • 1 12 cup all-purpose flour – 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 12 teaspoon salt – 12 cup softened unsalted butter – 1 cup granulated sugar – 5 large eggs
1 cup whole milk – 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

To make the milk mixture:

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz.) – 1 can evaporated milk (12 oz.) – 1 cup heavy cream

For the garnish:

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • optional (for garnish) ground cinnamon or cocoa powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease a 913-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Place aside.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar in a large mixing mixer until light and fluffy. One at a time, add the eggs, beating well after each addition. Incorporate the vanilla extract.
  4. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture. Beginning and ending with the flour mixture, combine until barely mixed.
  5. Evenly distribute the batter in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Prepare the milk mixture while the cake is baking. Whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream in a separate bowl until well blended.
  8. Remove the cake from the oven and set aside for 10 minutes to cool. Poke holes all over the surface of the cake using a fork or toothpick.
  9. Pour the milk mixture over the cake gradually, allowing it to soak in. Spread the milk mixture evenly using a spatula or the back of a spoon.
  10. Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the milk to permeate.
  11. Spread the whipped cream on top of the cake before serving. To add flavor and decoration, sprinkle some ground cinnamon or chocolate powder on top.
  12. Cut the Tres Leches cake into slices and serve cold. Enjoy!

Tres Leches cake should be served refrigerated and eaten within a few days.
