1 cup unsalted butter
1 pound brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
14 teaspoon baking powder
2 quarts flour
(Optional) 3/4 cup fine unsweetened coconut
3/4 cup plus 3/4 cup chocolate chips for garnish

Instructions:
Cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and (if using) coconut.
Fold the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture until completely combined.
3/4 cup chocolate chips should be folded in.
Bake for 40 minutes at 350°F (325°F for glass bakeware) in a prepared 9-inch square baking pan.
Remove from oven and, while still hot, sprinkle 3/4 cup chocolate chips evenly over the top. Allow for 5 minutes to stand before spreading the melted chips evenly across the surface using the back of a spoon or an offset spatula.
Allow it cool completely before cutting into squares or bars.
