Chocolate Wacky Cake Recipe

Serves: 8-10
Preparation Time: 45 minutes plus cooling

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup water

Optional ingredients for homemade frosting:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, as needed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 cup water, as needed

Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F, and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, and cocoa. Stir in the baking soda and salt.
  3. Whisk in the vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and white vinegar. Add water gradually, mixing until the batter is smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the center is done and a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. If desired, prepare the optional glaze: Mix the softened butter with 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar until creamy. Add the vanilla and cocoa, and stir in 1/3 cup of water until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more water for a thinner frosting or more sugar to thicken it. Cover and refrigerate until needed.
  6. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting or serving. Sit back, relax, and savor the rich, chocolaty goodness!

Enjoy this delightful cake that’s been passed down through generations. It’s a testament to the fact that sometimes the most unexpected recipes can be the most scrumptious!
