The humble graham cracker is a simple little snack that can accomplish so much. Anyone up for some s’mores? What is an icebox cake? They’re so adaptable and can be transformed into so many different things, and here they’re covered in toffee and pecan taste and more evocative of candy bark than a cracker.

Toffee Graham Cracker Squares are as simple to prepare as they are delicious.

These are made using only five ingredients. (Six if you include salt. But I consider it a need, like to water or air.) These are the ingredients: graham crackers, butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and pecans. You may even have all of those items in your cabinet or refrigerator right now!

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 graham cracker sleeves
2 sticks (1 cup) unseasoned butter
1 pound light brown sugar
a tsp vanilla extract
a quarter teaspoon of salt
1 cup pecans, chopped
PREPARATION
Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a baking sheet with foil.
Arrange graham crackers in a single layer on prepared baking sheet, breaking crackers as required to achieve a single layer.
Melt butter and sugar in a saucepan over medium-low heat until dissolved. Cook until the mixture boils, then remove from heat and whisk in the vanilla and salt.
Spread evenly with a rubber spatula over the graham crackers. Sprinkle with pecans on top.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the mixture bubbles.
Allow to totally cool before cutting into squares. Enjoy!
