Meatball subs are a popular sandwich consisting of meatballs, marinara sauce, and cheese served on a large bread or baguette. They are a filling and delicious alternative that may be served for lunch or dinner. Here’s a basic recipe for meatball subs:

  • Meatballs (beef, pork, or a combination of the two) – Marinara sauce
  • Use baguettes instead of rolls.
  • Shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese
  • Optional garnishes include grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh basil, and crushed red pepper flakes.
  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature listed on the meatball package or recipe.
  2. Make the meatballs according to the recipe you want. You can use readymade meatballs or make your own from ground beef, pig, or a combination of the two, along with seasonings and breadcrumbs.
  3. Heat the marinara sauce in a skillet over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
  4. Add the cooked meatballs to the marinara sauce and let them to absorb the flavors for a few minutes.
  5. Slice the sub rolls or baguettes lengthwise but not all the way through while the meatballs are boiling.
  6. Arrange the sliced rolls on a baking sheet and, if like, toast them in a preheated oven for a few minutes until warm and slightly crispy.
  7. Take the rolls out of the oven and spread some marinara sauce on the bottom half of each bun.
  8. Arrange a few meatballs on top of the sauce, distributing them equally.
  9. Drizzle more marinara sauce over the meatballs and top with shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese.
  10. Bake the constructed subs for a few minutes longer, or until the cheese has melted and is bubbling and brown.
  11. Remove the subs from the oven and top with any extras, such as grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh basil, or crushed red pepper flakes.
  12. Put the top half of the rolls over the meatballs and cheese to close the sandwiches.
  13. Enjoy the meatball subs while they are still warm!

Feel free to make changes to the recipe to suit your tastes. Other toppings, such as sautéed onions or bell peppers, or experimenting with other types of cheese, can be added for a new touch on the classic meatball sandwich.
