When I look at one part of our bathroom, it constantly makes me shudder. It’s the limescale and mineral deposits that have accumulated on our shower doors and tracks. I’ll be honest and say that I’ve never actually cleaned around the shower frame or door.

When I look at one part of our bathroom, it constantly makes me shudder. It’s the limescale and mineral deposits that have accumulated on our shower doors and tracks. I’ll be honest and say that I’ve never actually cleaned around the shower frame or door tracks. How do you clean the tracks on your shower doors? I wasn’t certain.

Years of Ignorance
So I’m quite sure there was some buildup on the shower door frame and tracks when we moved in years ago. That, combined with my lack of knowledge about how to clean it or even whether it could be cleaned, and, to be honest, a little laziness, led me to simply ignore it. However, I knew that I needed to try to deal with it. My process and outcomes are listed here.

Point of departure
I attempted to capture some before, while, and after shots. I don’t think they truly express the heart of the task at hand, but I’ll start with one to give you a sense of what I was up to.

I performed some online research to find the best (and simplest) way to remove the build-up. I choose to begin with the vinegar technique. It sounded the most straightforward, and I already had vinegar on hand, so I went for it.

Pouring vinegar into the shower tracks was the first step. My tracks have little holes for water to leak through, which I sealed with paper towels. That wasn’t the ideal solution because it still drained out once the paper towel was saturated, but it sufficed. A cloth or anything thicker than a paper towel could be preferable.
