Steak Cubed with Onion Gravy
Cubed Steak with Onion Gravy is a quick and easy dish that is also a cost-effective method to feed your family beef. Cubed steaks are floured and pan-fried. This country-style steak is topped with a savory onion gravy made with a large sliced onion and a packet of dry onion soup mix.
Equipment

Skillet made of cast iron

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds steak, cubed a third of a cup of flour a half teaspoon garlic salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 0.5 cup vegetable oil 1 big chopped onion 1 can beef broth (14 oz.) 1 pound dried onion soup mix

In a pie plate or shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic salt, and black pepper. Coat both sides of the cubed steak in the flour mixture.
In a big skillet (ideally cast iron), heat the oil over medium-high heat. Cook the meat in two batches if required. Cook for 5 minutes on each side. Set away the meat from the skillet.
Add a few teaspoons of remaining flour from coating the steak to the pan drippings to thicken the gravy.
Add the onion, broth, and onion soup mix to the pan drippings. Scrape up any browned parts adhered to the pan’s bottom using a wooden spoon.
Bring to a simmer and continue to cook until the onions are tender.
Return the meat to the pan to reheat. Serve alongside mashed potatoes.
