This delicious and substantial treat is more dense than banana bread. The chocolate butter icing will have you daydreaming about it long after the bars have vanished from your serving platter.

Brownies with banana bread
Banana Bread Bars (INGREDIENTS):
1 1/2 cups sugar 1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup softened butter
2 eggs
mashed 1-3/4 (3 or 4) ripe bananas
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup brown butter frosting
4 cups of powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons milk

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Butter and flour a 1510-inch jelly roll pan. In a large mixing basin, combine the sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy. Mix in the bananas and vanilla essence. Blend in the flour, baking soda, and salt for 1 minute. Mix in the walnuts.
  2. Evenly distribute the batter in the pan. Cook for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  3. In the meantime, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Allow the butter to develop a delicate brown before removing it from the heat.
  4. Stir in the powdered sugar, vanilla essence, and milk. Whisk until smooth (the consistency should be thicker than a glaze but thinner than frosting). Spread the brown butter frosting over the warm bars with a spatula (the frosting will be easier to spread while the bars are still warm).
