I have a confession to make: this cake was inspired by my desire to avoid making a pie crust. And not having to rush to the store the night before Thanksgiving. I had planned to make an apple crumb pie but didn’t want to deal with pie dough. I was exhausted, weary of cleaning my kitchen and so bored of washing dishes that I was ready to call it a night.
So I looked around my pantry and discovered a package of cake mix. It’s always an excellent place to start. The rest is history. I blended it with typical apple pie filling components, and the rest is history. Isn’t it true that the best ideas come from necessity?

Is it pie or cake, Apple Pie Cake? Yes, both! When you can’t decide between pie and cake, this apple pie cake will satisfy both desires!

I understand how perplexing this could sound. Is that a pie? Is it a piece of cake? Make a decision, RecipeGirl! It was difficult for me to make a decision. A cake batter is poured in and around the apples in this recipe to keep it all together in the consistency of a cake, but there are so many apples included that it can also pass for a pie.
