INGREDIENTS
3 cup (garlic) leftover potatoes mashed
1 pound ground beef, lean
1/2 cup finely chopped white onion
3 minced garlic cloves
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian)
1 big egg
1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/3 cup cooked and shredded bacon or bacon bits
to taste, kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
PREPARATION
Preheat the oven to 400oF.
Using two forks or your hands, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a large mixing basin.
Season with salt and pepper, then fold in the breadcrumbs and egg.
Place the ground beef in an 8-inch square baking dish and press it down to form an even layer.
Top the ground beef mixture with mashed potatoes, then with cheddar cheese and bacon bits.
Place baking dish in oven and cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the aluminum foil and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
