One tablespoon tomato paste; one teaspoon each of dried oregano and basil; salt and pepper to taste; one cup of optionally shredded mozzarella cheese

Guidelines:
Set the oven temperature to 350°F, or 175°C.

  2. Saute the ground beef in a big skillet over medium heat until it turns brown. Cook for an additional two to three minutes, or until the onion is transparent, after adding the diced onion and minced garlic. Any extra fat in the skillet should be drained.
  3. Add the cooked rice, tomato sauce, tomato paste, chopped tomatoes together with their juice, dried basil, dry oregano, salt, and pepper. Allow the flavors to mingle by simmering the mixture for approximately five minutes.
  4. Cover the bottom of a large casserole dish with a thin layer of the beef and tomato mixture. Cover with a layer of cabbage leaves, then cover again with the meat mixture. Once all the components have been utilized, continue layering the ingredients until a layer of cabbage leaves is on top.
  5. Bake the casserole dish for 40 minutes with the foil covering it. Next, take off the foil and equally distribute the mozzarella cheese shreds on top. Put the dish back in the oven and continue to bake it for ten to fifteen more minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and melted.
