HAMBURGER PEPPERS AND ONION GYROS MADE AT HOME

The temptation of Easy Ground Beef Gyros is difficult to ignore, especially when they promise a blast of flavors and are ready in less than 30 minutes! Consider ground beef marinated to perfection with authentic Greek spices, nestled inside a delicious pita pocket and complimented by a vivid medley of fresh greens such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and the piquant touch of red onions.

Drizzle some homemade tzatziki over this arrangement and top with crumbled feta for a delicious treat!

Gyros are, in essence, the Greek cousins of the famous taco. Both delicacies rely on a delectable filling, usually of the meaty variety, surrounded by an outer shell. They’re both topped with a scrumptious sauce and garnished with a waterfall of fresh vegetables.

Given that ground beef is the main component in this recipe, the resemblance between gyros and tacos becomes even more evident. And, for those who are familiar with the time-consuming procedure of cooking conventional gyro meat, the ground beef version is definitely a pleasant simplification.

The symphony of aromas created when the warmth of seasoned beef meets the cold of tzatziki sauce and fresh vegetables is nothing short of culinary enchantment.

From the soft pita and juicy meat to the crisp vegetables and acidic sauce, each bite is an explosion of contrasting textures and flavors. This dish is a testament to the beauty of mixing simple ingredients to produce a taste sensation that dances on the tongue.

So, if you want to take a short gastronomic trip to the streets of Greece, these Ground Beef Gyros are the ticket. Simple, delectable, and absolutely tasty.

INGREDIENTS

1 pound beef ground

1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon ground thyme, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and 1 teaspoon salt

12 tsp black pepper

14 tsp ground nutmeg

4 pitas

Optional toppings include lettuce, sliced tomato, cucumber, red onion, fresh dill, and feta cheese.

Tzatziki dressing

34 cup plain Greek yogurt

34 cup shredded cucumber (I prefer English cucumber)

2 teaspoons freshly chopped fresh dill

12 teaspoon lemon juice

2 minced garlic cloves

12 teaspoon of salt

14 cup crumbled feta cheese

INSTRUCTIONS

Cook until the ground beef is browned in a pan over medium-high heat, about 5-7 minutes. Mix in the seasonings and 12 cup water. Simmer for 5 minutes over medium heat, or until the sauce has thickened around the meat.

Make the Tzatziki sauce while the steak is cooking. Begin by squeezing the excess moisture from the grated cucumber and discarding it. Combine the shredded cucumber and the remaining ingredients in a small bowl.
