Is it necessary to underline how much I despise doing laundry? Even with my gorgeous laundry closet, it’s an uphill struggle that I can’t seem to appreciate. I’ve tried, honestly, to find joy in it! But dealing with stubborn oil stains used to be the worst part.

I found myself regularly washing my husband’s shirts with various stain removers and sprays, only to find those obstinate stains still staring at me. Then, as if by magic, a friend of my mother proposed a trick… and believe me, it was game-changing!

Cleaning advice isn’t usually something I post on my blog, but I was so excited to find a solution that reduced my laundry load that I felt compelled to share it. Perhaps there are others out there, like myself, facing the same enormous challenge! Please keep in mind that this content may contain affiliate links.

I’m honestly stumped as to the source of these persistent grease stains, but it’s almost as if they’ve declared war on every garment in my husband’s closet! Many people have suggested that the culprits could be fabric softener or dryer sheets, but since I don’t use either of those, that notion doesn’t apply to us. If you’re dealing with a similar problem, it’s worth investigating.

Despite my best efforts, nothing appeared to remove these stains, and we ended up throwing away a slew of his polo shirts only to replace them. Every washing day had become so aggravating that I was on the verge of tearing my hair out!

My mother’s acquaintance advised Dawn Platinum Erasing Dish Foam as a remedy to our grease stain problem. Originally intended to clean dishes by absorbing grease, she observed that it also performed wonders on laundry. My mum, intrigued and desperate, gave it a try and confirmed its effectiveness. Taking their word for it, I decided to try it as well. I bought it a number of times from Target at first, but its availability was fairly inconsistent. As a result, I’ve chosen to buy refill bottles from Amazon in the future.

This soap’s distinguishing trait is its foamy quality upon pumping, and a small dab goes a long way. Simply dab a small quantity onto each grease spot.

Rub the dish soap into the fabric with your fingertips, covering the entire soiled area.

Allow the Dawn Platinum Erasing Dish Foam to remain on the clothing for about 5 minutes before washing.

Use your regular detergent and wash the clothing according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I prefer to wash all of my items in cold water with Tide Coldwater Clean.

If the grease or oil stain remains, reapply the Dawn erasing foam and continue the process. There have been a few cases when stubborn set-in stains required two or three washes, but the majority of stains are removed after only one treatment, even if the damaged clothing had previously been washed and dried.

I’ve only tried this procedure on cotton, poly, and denim. If you have a stain on a particularly delicate fabric, I recommend first testing the Dawn erasing foam on an inconspicuous area.

Finding this technique to remove the stubborn grease and oil stains has been a huge relief! While I still dislike doing laundry, I now have one less aggravation to deal with!

So, what’s your go-to laundry trick for dealing with tough stains? I’d love to hear what you think in the comments!
