If you’re looking for a natural and effective way to fertilize your plants, look no further! Making your own eggshell tea fertilizer is easy and it’s a great way to repurpose those leftover eggshells.
What You’ll Need
- 2 liters of water
- Shells of 6 eggs
- Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate
- Plastic bottle
- Strainer
The Procedure
- Start by using the eggshells with the inner membrane intact. This will provide additional nutrients for your plants.
- Place 2 liters of water in a pot and bring it to a boil.
- While the water is heating up, grind the eggshells in a mortar until they resemble a sand-like consistency.
- Once the water starts boiling, add the ground eggshells to the pot and let it cook for 5 minutes.
- Additionally, add about 15 grams or 1 tablespoon of epsom salt, which is rich in magnesium and beneficial for plant growth.
- Remove the pot from heat and place it in a cool, dry place.
- Cover the pot and let the mixture stand for 24 hours to allow the nutrients to leach into the water.
- After 24 hours, strain the preparation using a strainer and pour the strained water into a plastic bottle.
- Don’t discard the residue left in the strainer! These leftovers can be used to deter pests, such as snails or slugs, from approaching your plants.
- Use the water from the bottle to water your plants at least once a month. It’s a natural and nutrient-rich fertilizer that your plants will love!
- If you have any leftover water in the bottle, you can store it in a shady place and use it again. Just make sure to give it a good shake before using it.
Making your own eggshell tea fertilizer is not only a great way to nourish your plants, but it’s also an eco-friendly solution that repurposes kitchen waste. Give it a try and watch your plants thrive!
