What outperforms Banana Bread? Banana Bread in a Bottle! It is ideal for camping and makes great Christmas gifts and party favors. Making it is also a lot of fun.

Have you ever wondered what you were going to do with all of those ripe bananas in your freezer? Make these small treats with them and give them as gifts this holiday season.

Debbie and I met some years ago at a bloggers’ lunch, and we hit it up right away. She’s down-to-earth, easy to chat to, and a joy to be around. And since then, I’ve gotten to know Sherri and Tracy. They are ALL great women.

“This is an excellent gift for friends and neighbors.” Also suitable as a Christmas Bazaar item. Decorate the jar ring with a lovely label and a circle of Christmas fabric. Using the same fundamental recipe, you can produce multiple variations by substituting other fruits and vegetables.”

This will be used as a teacher gift. I was going to make my favorite bread recipe from the Fanny Farmer Baking Book, but I realized that the ingredients were nearly identical, so I used this one instead. I left off the cloves because I don’t like them and because another reviewer said the bread was too hot. Reduce the cinnamon a touch as well. I also sprayed the insides of the jars with cooking spray. I placed the jars immediately on the rack after filling them halfway (as another person instructed). They turned out beautifully, and the recipe is wonderful! If you notice that they’ve popped out of the jar a little when you take them out of the oven, carefully (with gloves, of course) press the top of the bread down gently so that the sides are away from the seal. I made sure the rim was clean, and even though they were nearly filled, they all sealed nicely. Big Lots had the pint-size wide mouth jars near where I live for $5.99 for a dozen. Plan on adorning them with 7′′ round lengths of ribbon and printing out gift tags to attach with a message to heat for less than 30 seconds in the microwave so they slip straight out and are ready for slicing. Will absolutely make them again, and I intend on purchasing more mason jars to store for holiday baking! I hope this review was useful…Everyone else did the same for me!

I’ve cooked these five times now! The trick to making them moist is to not bake them on a baking sheet. To ensure consistent baking, place the jars directly on the oven rack. Baking on a baking sheet results in undercooked middles and overcooked tops! I received numerous compliments from everyone I gave these as a gift!

I just made these in 8 oz. jelly jars and they filled perfectly with 1/2 cup batter. I’m going to put these jars in cheap cups with a package of hot chocolate mix. For a cute small gift, wrap it in cellophane and ribbon. Thank you so much for the recipe and present idea!!!

Fantastic!! This was my first time making banana bread, and it was delicious. My husband, a banana bread connoisseur, declared it the greatest he’d ever tasted. I found the jars at Wal-Mart because I knew some of you were having difficulty finding them. I also reduced the cloves from 1 1/2 teaspoon to one teaspoon. I scaled the recipe to create 12 jars, as another reviewer did. I cooked 6 jars at a time as an experiment, the first using a cookie sheet and the second without. The bread cooked on the cookie sheet was great, but the ones fried without the sheet turned out more golden brown on the outside (the others were darker). I also discovered an extremely simple technique to get the batter into the jars: pour the batter into a hefty gallon freezer bag and cut a small hole in the corner of the bag. This allows you to pipe the batter directly into the jars. There is no mess! Thank you; this recipe is fantastic. I can’t wait to give gifts this year! I’ll try pumpkin next time.

2/3 cup vegetable shortening
2 and a half cups white sugar 4 eggs
2 bananas, mashed
3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour 2/3 cup water
a half teaspoon baking powder
2 tbsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tablespoons salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 teaspoon ground cloves (I used half a teaspoon because I didn’t want my sauce to be too ‘clovey’.)
2/3 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
You will also require:
12 250 ml canning jars – sterilized funnel.

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius). Grease the insides of 12 250ml canning jars. (I used vegetable oil to clean mine.)
Cream the shortening and sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Banana mash-Incorporate the eggs, bananas, and water.
Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves in a mixing bowl.
Mix into the banana mixture thoroughly.
Stir in the nuts with a spoon.
Insert canning funnel into jar mouth and pour ingredients into half-filled buttered jars. Do not place lids on baking jars. Keep the rims clean by wiping away any batter that gets on them.
Place the jars immediately on the oven rack. 45 minutes in the oven. Don’t be concerned if a few float to the top of the container. After it has completed baking, you can press it down with the lid.
Add lids while the jars are still warm. Screw on firmly.
Once you’ve added the lids, listen for the ping; this indicates that the jar is sealed. If you don’t hear the “ping,” wait until they’re completely cool before pressing on the top of the lid. It’s sealed if it doesn’t move at all.
