Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, roughly chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 350º F.
  2. Place 6 tablespoons of butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt.
  3. Sprinkle the pecans over the melted butter and set the baking dish aside.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, milk, and vanilla until it forms a smooth mixture.
  5. Pour the batter over the pecans, spreading it gently to create an even layer. Make sure not to mix the pecans into the batter.
  6. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly on top of the batter, without mixing it in.
  7. Carefully pour the hot water over the brown sugar, evenly coating the entire dish.
  8. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown.
