Recipe Details

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ¼ cup (½ stick) salted butter
  • Ten 1 ounce slices of soft French bread
  • 2½ cups 1% low-fat milk
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until the mixture is bubbly, stirring constantly. Pour the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  3. Arrange the bread slices in a single layer over the syrup in the dish. In a large bowl, combine milk and the next 4 ingredients (flour, vanilla extract, salt, and eggs) and whisk together. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices. Cover the dish and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  4. When you are ready to cook, preheat the oven to 350°F.
  5. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the bread.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes or until golden. Let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.
