This delectable peach cobbler evokes the warmth and comfort of a traditional southern dish. This cobbler is laden with juicy, delicious peaches coated in aromatic spices and has a distinctive, handmade butter crust – all cooked from scratch.

This recipe, a family heirloom, was my craving during my pregnancy, carefully made by my aunts who learned the magic from Grandma. Let’s get started on Grandma’s beloved Southern Peach Cobbler recipe!

The handcrafted flaky buttery crust is the star of the show. Skip the store-bought crust; nothing beats the authenticity of a homemade crust.

Ingredients:

Filling:

2 pound frozen sliced peaches
1 granulated sugar cup
8 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
14 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups of water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Crust:

ingredients:

Filling:

2 pound frozen sliced peaches

1 granulated sugar cup

8 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

14 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 1/2 cups of water

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Crust:

1 cup shortening flavored with butter

2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt

a third of a cup of icy water

Instructions:

To make the crust, put the sifted flour and shortening in a mixing dish. Combine with a pastry cutter or dough hooks until the texture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water gradually and form into a ball. Refrigerate for 45 minutes, wrapped in plastic wrap.

Peach Filling: Combine peaches, water, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a big pot. Heat the oil over medium-high heat. When the mixture begins to bubble, add the butter and vanilla extract.

Make a slurry by combining 3 tbsp flour and 1/2 cup water. Reduce the heat to low after adding this to the bubbling peach concoction.

Make the Cobbler: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Half of the dough should be rolled out and cut into 1-inch pieces. Bake them for 7 minutes on a cookie sheet.

Fill a 13×9 baking dish halfway with the peach filling. Fold the partially baked dough squares into the filling gently.

Roll out the leftover dough and cut it into strips. Arrange them in a lattice design over the filling.

Bake for 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown, in a preheated oven.

Allow it to cool somewhat before serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful experience.
