Peanut Butter Chocolate Balls

Calling all peanut butter and chocolate lovers! If you’re a fan of this delightful combination, then you absolutely have to try Peanut Butter Chocolate Balls, also known as Buckeye candy. These delicious balls of creamy peanut butter coated in chocolate are an absolute must for the holidays! They have become a staple at my house during this time of year, and I promise you, they won’t disappoint.

The Perfect Addition to Your Holiday Treats

While Peanut Blossoms are a classic holiday cookie, Peanut Butter Chocolate Balls deserve a spot on your must-make list as well. Whether you call them Buckeye Candy or simply peanut butter balls, they are practically the same thing – balls of creamy peanut butter goodness coated in rich chocolate. I prefer to dip mine all the way in chocolate for an extra indulgent treat, but you can also leave some of the peanut butter exposed on top to resemble a Buckeye nut.

What You’ll Need

The best part about this recipe is that you only need 5 simple ingredients:

  • Creamy Peanut Butter
  • Butter
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Melting Chocolate

You might come across versions of this recipe that include rice krispie cereal for added texture, but I prefer to keep it pure and focus on the super creamy center.

How to Make Peanut Butter Balls

Making these delicious treats is a breeze! Here’s how:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Mix until everything is well combined. You can use a stand mixer or simply a spatula in a large bowl – either way works!
  2. Roll the peanut butter mixture into 1-inch-sized balls and refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up before rolling.
  3. Dip the balls in melted chocolate and place them on a baking sheet to set up.
  4. Allow the chocolate to harden before serving.

Tips for the Perfect Buckeye Candy

  • If you want a smooth and creamy center, make sure to use creamy peanut butter. Crunchy peanut butter won’t give you the same velvety texture. I recommend using brands like Skippy or Jif for the best results. Natural peanut butter may not work as well.
  • When it comes to the chocolate, avoid using chocolate chips. They contain stabilizers that prevent them from melting smoothly and forming a thin coating. Opt for chocolate bark or melting disks instead for a flawless finish.
  • If you want your candy to resemble a true Buckeye nut, you can insert a toothpick in the top and only dip the peanut butter balls partially in chocolate, leaving the top third exposed. However, if you prefer the entire ball to be coated in chocolate like me, you can use two forks to dip and coat the peanut butter balls.

Storage and Serving

Store your Peanut Butter Chocolate Balls in an airtight container. They will last in the fridge for about a month. Before serving, you can take them out a few minutes in advance to bring them closer to room temperature, although some enjoy them straight out of the fridge.

These yummy treats also freeze incredibly well. Just store them in an airtight container for 3-4 months. Before serving, thaw them in the fridge.

Now you’re all set to enjoy these irresistible Peanut Butter Chocolate Balls throughout the holiday season!
