My family and I visited my grandparents in California a few months ago. It had been a long since we had been out there, and I had missed spending time with them. Yes, she is the same grandmother who provides many of the delicious recipes on this blog from her fantastic cookbook, which she created and compiled from recipes she has had since she was married.

She created these bars for one of the desserts when we were there. I couldn’t get enough of them! Partly because all I’ve craved during my pregnancy has been sugar and sweets. When I inquired for the recipe, she replied it had been in the cookbook for years and that I had simply overlooked it. They’re SO simple to make and the ideal combination of ooey-gooey and scrumptious! You must make these, believe me!

1 box yellow cake mix, dried (not made)
8 tablespoons melted butter
1 egg
GOOEY LAYER: 8 oz. softened cream cheese, 2 eggs, beaten 16 oz. powdered sugar

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Combine cake mix, melted butter, and egg in a medium mixing basin. Mix until smooth and well blended.
Spread dough evenly in the bottom of a greased 913 baking pan. Place aside.
Cream the cream cheese in a separate large mixing dish. Add the eggs and beat for a minute or two, or until smooth. Continue to beat in the powdered sugar until fully mixed.
Pour over crust and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until done, at 350 degrees F. Do not overcook.
Remove from oven and allow it cool completely before cutting into.
