It doesn’t matter if you’ve never had a Maid-Rite sandwich before. One bite of these and you’ll grasp the idea, which means you’ll fall in love right away. After all, not everyone lives near a Maid-Rite, so let me give you the lowdown — A Maid-Rite sandwich is a loose meat sandwich on a hamburger bread, however it is not a Sloppy Joe. Whereas a Sloppy Joe is a saucy dish, a Maid-Rite Sandwich is all about the seasoning of the ground beef, which means it’s soft, savory, and positively delectable. It’s sometimes served plain, sometimes with pickles, sometimes with cheese, but it’s always fantastic. And here’s how you can make it yourself, in the form of a shareable slider.

I enjoy all kind of sliders. It has all the flavor of a burger but is much easier to eat. That makes them ideal for a variety of parties and occasions, but these are especially ideal because the flavor is so universally adored. Yes, it’s completely approachable, but it’s more than that… I think there’s some sort of sorcery going on here with the seasoning mixture.

INGREDIENTS
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 tiny minced white onion
1 cube beef bouillon
1 cup of water
2 teaspoons brown sugar
14 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
12 slider buns in a pack
1/3 cup sliced dill pickles
6 oz. American cheese
1/2 cup melted butter FOR THE BUTTER SAUCE
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
PREPARATION
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Brown the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking the meat apart nicely as it cooks.
If necessary, drain the oil before adding the bouillon cube, water, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low heat and continue to cook until the liquid has evaporated.
In a baking dish, place the bottoms of the buns and top with the beef mixture. Place pickles on top, then cheese slices, then top with bun tops.
Brush melted butter, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce over buns in a small bowl.
Bake for 25 minutes, covered with foil. Enjoy!
