Vegan Garlic Teriyaki Tofu

Are you a beginner vegan looking for a tasty and protein-packed recipe? Look no further than this Garlic Teriyaki Tofu! It’s not only delicious but also super quick and easy to make. Say goodbye to take-out and hello to a healthier option that won’t break the bank.

To make this recipe beginner-friendly, we recommend using a store-bought teriyaki glaze. This thick sauce will give your tofu a sticky texture. However, if you can’t find this product or prefer to make your own, we’ve got you covered. You can make your own “Restaurant-style thick teriyaki sauce” at home.

Here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:

  • Extra firm tofu (6.5 oz per person or serving)
  • Soy sauce
  • Teriyaki glaze or a thick teriyaki sauce
  • Garlic
  • Oil
  • Sesame seeds
  • Optional garnish: chives, scallions, peanuts, etc.

Step 1: Cut the tofu into small cubes.

Step 2: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu cubes and fry them on all sides until golden.

Step 3: Add soy sauce to the pan and fry everything together for 1/2-1 minute. This step is crucial for achieving crispy tofu.

Step 4: Turn off the heat and stir in the teriyaki glaze and minced garlic. Mix everything together for 1 minute.

Step 5: Sprinkle sesame seeds over the tofu.

Step 6: Serve the tofu over fresh rice and add your optional garnish.

Vegan Garlic Teriyaki Tofu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of tofu (12 oz)
  • 6 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp thick teriyaki sauce (or teriyaki glaze)
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 2 big cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions:

  1. Cut the tofu into small cubes and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the tofu cubes and fry them on all sides until golden.
  3. Once the tofu is fried, add soy sauce to the pan and fry everything together for 1/2-1 minute.
  4. Turn off the heat and stir in the teriyaki glaze and minced garlic. Mix everything together for 1 minute.
  5. Finally, sprinkle sesame seeds over the tofu, add your optional garnish, and serve over hot rice.

Note: Teriyaki glaze is a thicker and stickier version of teriyaki sauce. If you use regular sauce, your end result will not be the same. Alternatively, you can use a thick (“restaurant-style”) teriyaki sauce as well.
